Riptide
Head: Trevor Fitzroy (X-Men by Toybiz)
Rest of Figure: Morph (X-Men by Toybiz)
Completed: around 1998-1999Details: Well, you can't have Riptide without having a whirlwind. I'm not really sure where I got the idea, but I was determined to make a Riptide figure with the wind whipping around him and it not look silly. I think that it came out beautifully.
The head is from Trevor Fitzroy. I sanded down the beard and formed the pointy chin. I used some putty to fill in the hair on his left side. The Morphy body was a relatively easy modification. Simply sanded the belt and buckle off and formed his right hand into a fist.
The whirlwind is made from 6 two litter Diet Coke bottle. In the front and the back are two inch wide pieces that all of the "strands" are glued to. Many of the strands are only attached at the ends, so the whirlwind has some "give" to it. I purposely used superglue on this to give the clear plastic a cloudy look. The paper in the whirlwind is tissue paper.
This is one of those custom projects that turns out exactly like you imagined it would. I don't get a lot of complements on it, but I love it anyway.
